During an interview with Empire Magazine's portal, J.J. Abrams revealed that Kylo Ren's damaged mask in "Star Wars: The Skywalker Ascension" has a meaning.
“Having it with a mask, even if damaged, is totally intentional. It is like a historical process of ceramic restoration in Japan. Brands define the beauty of the piece, just as it was the original. ”
“Kylo Ren is a split character, who has doubts. And the mask represents it visually. It is not used to hide your face, but to reveal your true behavior. ”
“Lucasfilm and director JJ Abrams join forces once again to take viewers on an epic journey to a far, far away galaxy with Star Wars: The Skywalker Ascension, the fascinating conclusion of the seminal Skywalker saga, where new legends will be born and the final battle for freedom is coming. ”
Star Wars: Skywalker Ascension hits theaters on December 19, and features the returns of veterans Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher (who will have archival footage used), Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels.
As for the latest names, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Matt Smith and Keri Russell are also confirmed.
J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) returns in direction.
