Education is the top priority of the Oeiras Municipality's mandate and the City Council will disburse 400,000 euros to extend the scope of the Light Backpack program, which was piloted in the 2018/2019 school year. For this school year, 15 more schools, 210 teachers, 2342 students and 94 classes will be included, for a total of 124.
The press release reveals that the project aims to work without physical textbooks and presupposes the purchase of didactic and technological material that supports teaching. In addition to hardware, it is also necessary to invest in proper training of the faculty. The amount invested will reach 370 thousand euros, of which about 305 thousand will go to the purchase of 1060 tablets, covers and 110 storage and charging cabinets.
A total of nine school groups will benefit from the measure (AE Aquilino Ribeiro, Carnaxide, Carnaxide-Portela, Count of Oeiras, Linda-a-Old Cheeses, Miraflores, Paço de Arcos, Santa Catarina and Sao Bruno).
The project aims to create conditions for the professional development of teachers based on collaborative work and the use of resources such as manipulable materials, digital platforms or others that replace physical manuals as a preponderant element for classroom learning.
