An influential YouTuber revealed that she is transgender after saying she was blackmailed by someone who threatened her.
Jager makeup artist Nikkie, also known as Nikkie Tutorials, told her nearly 13 million subscribers that she "always wanted to share" her story publicly, "but under my own circumstances."
"It looks like it was taken from me," the 25-year-old said in a video blog, adding, "I was blackmailed by people who wanted to get my story out to the press."
"At first it was scary to know that there are people who are so mean they can't respect someone's true identity. It's vile and it's disgusting."
Speaking about her transition in the 17-minute video, the Dutch creator said she felt she was "born in the wrong body" because "everything about me was female" and had grown up at six years old.
When she was eight, she said she was only wearing girls' clothes and, in the following years, took hormones and "growth locks" to control her height.
At age 19, she had completely changed, which, she said, occurred "while I was on YouTube."
De Jager has been publishing his makeup tutorials on YouTube for about 11 years and has collaborated with a number of celebrities including Lady Gaga and model Ashley Graham.
She also appeared on the front pages of Glamor and Grazia magazines in the Netherlands.
The unveiling of his video on Monday topped YouTube's trending list within hours of posting and has since garnered more than 16 million views.
YouTubers colleagues encouraged the star as a "proud and apologetic woman," while Dutch Education, Culture and Science Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven said she was a "model" of "great importance."
blackmailer Nikkie made the fatal mistake of underestimating the power of a fearless woman, proud and without excuses. You cannot be ashamed if you do not exist. we have your back ma https://t.co/ERI9QSPFbV

The 25-year-old said that finally telling her story was "surreal" but also "liberating" and assured fans that nothing in her account would change.
"As I am sharing this with you today, I feel that my relationship with all of you will be much more open than ever in the past," she said, adding, "And I think I'm ready for it."
She also praised her teachers and her mother, who supported her transition as she grew up, and her fiancé Dylan, who she said was a "strong and inspiring human being."
