The CEO of Facebook had revealed a few months ago that he intended to create simple, intimate places where people felt comfortable sharing photos, videos and messages privately and with select groups. Threads seems to be the first step in this direction and is a standalone Instagram app.
The Threads user will have access to Instagram's creative text, video and photo editing tools and emojis. The differentiating feature is Close Friends, a restricted contact group that you define that will be the only ones to have access to this content, explains The Verge. The management of this list can be done on Instagram or Threads directly, simply. The group gives rise to a separate message inbox, with private messages and notifications coming to a different place from Instagram.
States are another differentiator, with the user choosing from a predefined list or choosing to allow access to location, movement, battery level and network connection status so that the state can be set automatically (“In Cafe ”Or“ Walking, ”for example).
The Threads app will be available for iOS and Android.
