Gol has suspended flights of 11 Boeing 737 NG aircraft to replace one component after inspections recommended by the US aviation agency, FAA, the airline said on Wednesday.
Last week, the FAA ordered airlines to inspect 165 Boeing 737 NG aircraft because of structural cracks. The check should take place within seven days of the discovery of the cracks that were found on a small number of planes.
"The company withdrew from operation the aircraft in which indications were found of the need to replace a specific component, whose characteristics were outside the standards established by the manufacturer, reporting these occurrences to the FAA and Boeing, in coordination with the National Agency of Civil Aviation (Anac). These aircraft will remain inoperative until maintenance is completed, "Gol said in a statement.
US carrier Southwest Airlines said on Wednesday it had found cracks in two 737 NGs and had withdrawn aircraft from service.
The 737 NG is the previous version of the 737 MAX, which had operations suspended this year worldwide, but due to another problem.
Last week, the FAA said inspections could be done visually and should take about an hour by plane.
