Leaders of e-commerce in Latin America are building capacity rapidly through acquisitions or strategic partnerships even more than in-house development, Credit Suisse analysts said in a customer report, analyzing industry numbers in 2019.
"Fundraising, merger and acquisition activity and strategic alliances have accelerated significantly," said the team led by Antonio Gonzalez.
Citing a series of operations in the segment, Credit Suisse estimated that in the year to date, approximately $ 3.8 billion in additional capital was raised in Latin America, two major acquisitions were made and several strategic alliances were concluded.
Analysts also cited that the companies that added the most dollars to total sales (GMV) during the first nine months of 2010 were Mercado Livre and Magazine Luiza, with Walmex, Liverpool and Via Varejo seeing the smallest increases.
In absolute terms, the biggest players are Free Market and B2W, while Liverpool and Walmex appear at the opposite end.
